Pascal The unit of pressure produced when one newton acts on one square meter (1 N/m 2). The term "Partly Sunny" is used only during daylight hours. Partly Sunny Between 3/8 and 5/8 of the sky is covered by clouds. Partly Cloudy Between 3/8 and 5/8 of the sky is covered by clouds. Particle Trajectory Model A computer sub-model that tracks the trajectories of multiple particles that are released into an atmospheric flow model. Partial-Duration Flood Series In hydrologic terms, a list of all flood peaks that exceed a chosen base stage or discharge, regardless of the number of peaks occurring in a year. However, the radiation received by the radar antenna consists of the average reflectivity across the entire beam, so the reflectivity and associated rainfall rates are underestimated. At far ranges from the radar, a storm may occupy only a portion of the radar beam (which may be several miles across). Partial Beam Filling A limitation of the rainfall estimation techniques used by NEXRAD. They are most commonly seen during winter in the middle latitudes and are exclusively associated with cirriform clouds. They are caused by the refraction of sunlight passing through ice crystals. Either of two colored luminous spots that appear at roughly 22 degrees on both sides of the sun at the same elevation. Parhelion The scientific name for sun dogs. Parapet Wall In hydrologic terms, a solid wall built along the top of the dam for ornament, safety, or to prevent overtopping Parcel A volume of air small enough to contain uniform distribution of its meteorological properties and large enough to remain relatively self-contained and respond to all meteorological processes. Parameter A subset of the group of evaluations that constitute each element of an observation. Thunderstorms may be found south of the track. In winter, these systems usually deposit heavy snows north of their surface track. Pancake Ice In hydrologic terms, circular flat pieces of ice with a raised rim the shape and rim are due to repeated collisions Panhandle Hook Low pressure systems that originate in the panhandle region of Texas and Oklahoma which initially move east and then "hook" or recurve more northeast toward the upper Midwest or Great Lakes region. Pan Pan A headline within National Weather Service high seas forecasts transmitted via the GMDSS to indicate that a hurricane or hurricane force winds are forecast. This index is calculated weekly by the National Weather Service. PDSI) - an index used to gage the severity of drought conditions by using a water balance equation to track water supply and demand. It primarily affects weather patterns and sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, and northern Pacific Islands. It is characterized by SST anomalies of one sign in the north-central Pacific and SST anomalies of another sign to the north and east near the Aleutians and the Gulf of Alaska. PDO) - a recently described pattern of climate variation similar to ENSO though on a timescale of decades and not seasons. PAC Pacific Pacific Decadal Oscillation (Abbrev. What exactly is dark matter, the unseen stuff that astronomers say makes up one-quarter of the universe by mass? Indeed, why is there matter in the universe at all? It might also lead in time to explanations for the kinds of cosmic mysteries that have long preoccupied our lonely species. The additional data from the Fermilab experiment could provide a major boost to scientists eager to build the next generation of expensive particle accelerators. Most physicists believe that a rich trove of new physics waits to be found, if only they could see deeper and further. But the model leaves many deep questions about the universe unanswered. The results are also being published in a set of papers submitted to Physical Review Letters, Physical Review A, Physical Review D and Physical Review Accelerators and Beams.įor decades, physicists have relied on and have been bound by the Standard Model, which successfully explains the results of high-energy particle experiments in places like CERN’s Large Hadron Collider. “Today is an extraordinary day, long awaited not only by us but by the whole international physics community,” Graziano Venanzoni, a spokesman for the collaboration and a physicist at the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics, said in a statement issued by Fermilab. “We can say with fairly high confidence, there must be something contributing to this white space,” he said. Polly pointed to a graph displaying white space where the Fermilab findings deviated from the theoretical prediction. Polly said.Īt a virtual seminar and news conference on Wednesday, Dr. “After 20 years of people wondering about this mystery from Brookhaven, the headline of any news here is that we confirmed the Brookhaven experimental results,” Dr. The results, the first from an experiment called Muon g-2, agreed with similar experiments at the Brookhaven National Laboratory in 2001 that have teased physicists ever since. “This is strong evidence that the muon is sensitive to something that is not in our best theory,” said Renee Fatemi, a physicist at the University of Kentucky. The aberrant behavior poses a firm challenge to the Standard Model, the suite of equations that enumerates the fundamental particles in the universe (17, at last count) and how they interact. Polly and his colleagues - an international team of 200 physicists from seven countries - found that muons did not behave as predicted when shot through an intense magnetic field at Fermilab. The particle célèbre is the muon, which is akin to an electron but far heavier, and is an integral element of the cosmos. “This is our Mars rover landing moment,” said Chris Polly, a physicist at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, or Fermilab, in Batavia, Ill., who has been working toward this finding for most of his career. The new work, they said, could eventually lead to breakthroughs more dramatic than the heralded discovery in 2012 of the Higgs boson, a particle that imbues other particles with mass. The result, physicists say, suggests that there are forms of matter and energy vital to the nature and evolution of the cosmos that are not yet known to science. Evidence is mounting that a tiny subatomic particle seems to be disobeying the known laws of physics, scientists announced on Wednesday, a finding that would open a vast and tantalizing hole in our understanding of the universe. Most of the bad sectors are in unused parts of the drive. That may be because Time Machine only reads files that have changed? Carbon Copy Cloner complained about bad sectors in files during backup, but Time Machine didn't.I suspect that might work if there was an initial formatting problem, but in this case I know existing blocks are going bad. Carbon Copy Cloner told me 3 files were bad. In a modern drive a single bad block in a file, especially a relatively recently written file, means replacement. From what I know now though, I didn't really need it. I'm glad I bought TechTools Pro - I think I'll get good use of it.(See my backup issue post for a twist to this story.) That fits with Carbon Copy Cloner not complaining until recently. Based on the dates of the files that were involved the involved blocks went bad in the past month. Modern drives don't write to bad blocks.I bought this machine early in its lifecycle, I wonder if there will be more failures in this product line. 16 months is a short lifespan for a hard drive.Update : Various notes and reflections the day after. (See Update - this drive is on death row.) If it doesn't I'll try the reinitialization. (My usual Carbon Copy Cloner backups are to an encrypted image for offsite transfer, so not bootable.) I'll make a bootable clone before I do that. Since it's not a user serviceable I'll probably bring a new drive and the machine to FirstTech in Minneapolis for a $200 24 hour turnaround replacement. If the drive were user serviceable (like my old G5 iMac!) I'd simply replace it. My i5 iMac is 24 months and 2 weeks old - so it's past even my AMEX extended warranty (by two weeks!). I'm seeing the overflow, including blocks that went bad after they'd been written to. So the bad blocks I see now are probably a small fraction of the number that have already been mapped out. If a low level reinitialization fails, this indicates the drive is faulty and needs to be replaced. If they are, then the drive is probably failing and you should consider replacing it. We suggest, however, that you do a Surface Scan a few times in the next month or two just to be sure no new bad blocks are developing. If the reinitialization is successful, the drive should be fine at that point. This may take several hours (depending on the size of your drive). Be sure to choose the Security Option to "zero out data." Choosing this option will map out bad blocks, if possible, during the reinitialization. You can use Apple's Disk Utility to reinitialize your drive. When the drive is reinitialized, the entire platter is accessible so that bad blocks can be mapped out if possible no matter where they occur. If this occurs, TechTool Pro will report a bad block and you will ultimately need to do a low level reinitialization of the drive. It will do this unless either the bad block is in a critical area that cannot be mapped out at the moment or the bad block table is full. The drive controller in them automatically tries to map out bad blocks as they are encountered. TechTool Pro should not normally report bad blocks for these types of drives. Unfortunately, a modern SATA drive shouldn't have any bad blocks. After all, 56 out of 1.8 billion is minuscule. TTP also found bad blocks - 56 (so two less than Disk Genius, but I don't make much of that either way). It one-upped Disk Genius as it found bad blocks it told me which of them had files (none in this case). Andy M clued me to a MacUpdate bundle, so I got TechTool Pro 6 for $50 (plust a bunch of other apps I don't care about). Yes, the Mac needs an OS level uninstaller.) (Incidentally, Disk Genius has a built in uninstall feature - very nice. That seems a modest number, but DG said I needed to replace the drive. It found about 58 bad blocks - out of 1.8 billion. Disk Warrior has a good reputation, but Disk Genius has a trial version. So I checked out Disk Warrior, Disk Genius and TechTool Pro - 3 reputable diagnostic apps. Then I ran my Apple Hardware Test - extended, and loop mode. (Most non-trivial diagnostic work requires a wired keyboard and mouse Apple's bluetooth keyboard/mouse drivers may be unavailable when needed.)Īfter I deleted the bad (non-critical happily) files I ran Disk Utility - but the drive passed. It was time for some diagnostics, so I plugged in my old Apple Keyboard and mouse. That suggests my 24+ month old 1TB iMac drive is dying youngish. I knew from some backup issues that I had 3 unreadable files. (Once upon a time software was the cause, but these days it's hardware.) In the Mac world, that suggests a hardware problem. I've been having suspicious application crashes lately. Lastly, each character has their own special power, such as a beast mode or a thunderous hammer strike. The most potent ones are unlocked after a considerable investment of time, such as a sign that summons a zombie attack or one that turns all of the wooden toilet outhouses in the game into portals. Other signs provide boosts to your HP regeneration or affect all players simultaneously. For example, traps you unlock early include those that increase someone's recoil or throws them up into the air. When you spray one of these signs you can receive boosters or set traps that become increasingly potent as the map shrinks. When playing together with friends, in particular, this side of the game stays hilarious and really adds to the overall fun factor.Īdding depth to the gameplay is a progression system that allows you to unlock new underwear or face masks that provide a small buff, but there are also so-called 'Mystic Signs'. These provide further comical boosters such as speed-increasing bunny slippers or a health-regenerating IV bag. Likewise, health can be regenerated by consuming the food plates you collect and loot chests come in the form of refrigerators. You might shield your buttocks with a waffle iron and your head with a metal colander, for example. Instead of scavenging for serious armour and consumables, the Cuisine Royale world is littered with a variety of pots, pans, grocery bags and other kitchen-related appliances that serve as your character's armour. Players can pick one of four characters to play, who start out mostly in their underwear for each new match. As the name implies, food and culinary items are the big cosmetic element in Cuisine Royale. Cuisine Royale features Solo, Duos and Squads gameplay and allows for both first- and third-person perspectives. Moreover, it's free-to-play, and so we took our time to judge the quality of the game underneath the comical veil.Īt its core, Cuisine Royale is the same as other games in the genre: a steadily shrinking map brings surviving players ever closer together. Almost two years on, Cuisine Royale's servers are still filled with players. The game started out in 2018 as an April Fool's joke by its publisher, Gaijin Entertainment, as part of the work on World War 2-themed shooter Enlisted. As we'll explain in this review, Cuisine Royale is one of them. Sometimes, great games spawn from pretty ludicrous ideas. Venmo transfer fees vary but it approximately costs at least $0.25 to a maximum of 25$ for every transaction carried out. This Fee will highlight the amount that will be withdrawn from the overall amount to be sent. The fees vary depending on how much you would like to transfer bigger numbers will incur higher fees, while lower sums are likely to incur lower transaction fees. If customers are sending $200 to your bank account, the overall sum shown in this section will be $200 + the fee. The amount comprises of the full amount you wish to send to your bank account it will encompass both the money you wish to send and any relevant fees. The Actual amount will be sent to your bank account. The venmo fee calculator helps by showing you the following data: The next thing to ask is, “what is the best way to find out the transfer fee?” This is where you need the Venmo fee calculator. $270 + $8.75 = $ 278.75 after which the $8.75 will be subtracted, leaving $270, that will be transferred to your bank account. Thus, the amount that will successfully be sent to your bank should be 261.25, so to get the actual transfer amount, just add 1.75% which is equivalent to 8.75% to the $270. Thus, the overall amount that will be sent to your bank can be computed in this way: Sending that specific amount of money will incur a transfer fee of 3.15%. Let’s assume you are trying to send $270 via your Venmo wallet to your bank account. The fee is usually subtracted from the money you wish to transfer. The fact is that there is a transaction fee tied to sending money via your Venmo account to your bank account. Put more simply, the Venmo Fee Calculator enables you to estimate the Venmo transfer fees that are added anytime you carry out a direct transfer to your linked banking account, or via, other ways of carrying out transactions on Venmo. New Adguard lets you fully enjoy web surfing without any distractions. That greatly influences the stability of work in Safari, and these ad-blocking extensions fail to do their work properly, especially when video ads are an issue. Already-existing solutions do not consider the specifics of OS X. In the long run, ITP may be the saviour of online advertising as it allows people to be served ads which can to some extent be tailored but protect the user’s data and privacy at the same time whilst cutting off third-party cross-website tracking.Adguard can make your online experience safer because, though Macs and Apple laptops are quite safe to use, when it comes to ad blockers, Macs experience real problems. Traditional ad blockers have long been around and causing headaches for marketers, developers and website owners, but Apple isn’t cutting off advertising revenue, it’s making sure you’re not abusing data. Apple is really pushing on the privacy protection features, but for the time being, your favourite analytics platform is safe. So, will Safari be blocking Google Analytics? The simple answer is no. I think perhaps Apple could have used different language to explain the feature as words like ‘block’ do suggest that it was being blocked entirely. “When Safari says it blocks or prevents a tracker, what it means is that the ITP algorithm has flagged some domain as having cross-site tracking capabilities, and Safari has, among other things, stripped it of its capabilities to carry cookies in cross-site requests, also known as third-party cookies.” ITP is more advanced than you’re average ad blocker and it’s designed more to prevent cross-website tracking, the type that follows you around the internet and builds a profile out of your browsing habits which are then used to target you with laser-targeted ads. Using ITP ( Intelligent Tracking Prevention 2.0) What Safari is preventing it from doing is loading third-party scripts. Not exactly, Google Analytics as it’s own entity functions as you need it to – it’s feeding data back to the platform on how users are interacting with the website. So Safari Isn’t Blocking Google Analytics? Many, myself included, presumed that this was a full block, similar to how other more traditional ad blockers are known to work simply stop the resource from loading altogether. What wasn’t initially clear though was that this actually meant. In 3 weeks since the launch of the first beta and the day it was installed on my iPhone, Safari has ‘blocked’ Google Analytics on 365 websites. Installed on over half of the websites across the internet, it’s the number one analytics platform by a considerable margin and the impact of that data loss extends far beyond agencies. So, is Safari blocking Google Analytics? And what does that mean for your SEO campaign reporting?Īs the news hit the marketing websites, a flurry of panic spread across social media and digital marketing group chats as marketers realised that if Safari blocked Google Analytics from working, we were set to lose a substantial amount of data which is essential for reporting and showing campaign ROI. Built into Safari across all three platforms, they launched a new ‘Privacy Report’ which provides a summary of the number of trackers blocked, and the most common, which on my device is currently Google Analytics. With the launch of the latest versions of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS Big Sur, Apple launched lots of new privacy features to help better protect users from being tracked across the internet. It’s beta testing season and as a self-confessed tech addict, I am one of those people who install betas on my daily drivers and just accept the inevitable issues that come along with it. Hence, Microsoft also allows you to buy the full Office 2021 suite for a one-off payment. The subscription system suits some users, but others prefer to pay for software outright and know that they will own it for eternity. There are various packages depending on whether you will be the only person using the software, if you will be sharing the subscription with friends and family, or if you are a small business or a larger enterprise. With Microsoft 365, customers pay monthly or yearly to always have the most up to date version of the software. However, some of the new features had already been available as part of the Microsoft 365 (previously Office 365) subscription. Office 2021 for Mac was launched in September 2021 (three years after Office 2019 launched). What’s the difference between Microsoft 365 and Office 2021? It costs $49.99 at the Macworld Shop, it normally costs $249. Right now you can get big savings on Microsoft Office Home However the software title will be removed from any policy that had previously deployed said software title and will no longer be deployed to new devices. When removal from Addigy happens, the software title will stay on devices that have finished installation. Software titles that are deprecated pending removal will be removed from the Public Software Catalog at the corresponding dates below. No current titles marked for deprecation. A title with active support but little use may become Marked for Deprecation as might a title with high usage but is no longer being supported. A title will move to the Marked for Deprecation list after the review of if the title is in active support and the the usage of the package by Addigy Customers. After a software title has reached its marked for deprecation date, it will then move to Deprecated Pending Removal.Īddigy is continually measuring the use of the software titles included in the Public Software catalog and monitoring if packages are continuing to be updated. These titles do not carry a similar seven day goal as the currently supported list. However, these updates may be packaged, verified, and uploaded at a slower speed than software currently supported. Software titles marked for depreciation will continue to receive regular updates from Addigy. Logins no longer work on these applications per Google.) Google Drive for Desktop (Note: Google Drive File Stream and Google Backup and Sync are now Google Drive for Desktop. Software titles that are currently supported will receive regular updates from Addigy. Some software manufacturers release their latest updates in "phases." Addigy cannot attain these phased releases and must wait for the general public installer before making it available in the Public Software Catalog. For browsers and any other software that pushes out a zero-day fix, Addigy reserves the right to pull all previous versions of that title and only support the latest version. Still, due to the importance of those items, we will take additional precautions before posting and thus may extend the time needed for validation.
